South Korean President Roh Moo Hyun and North Korean leader Kim Jung Il met in Pyongyang, the North Korean capital, to participate in the summit in the hopes for easing diplomatic tensions and discussing various issues, including weapon disarmament. President Roh traveled by car that was supplied the North. According to the polls, most Koreans believe that the summit will be a step forward for unification, but many critics argue that the summit is driven for political purposes.
